Our Work

USA

In Battle Creek, Michigan, Be A Number, International is committed to empowering marginalized communities, particularly refugee women from Central Africa, through comprehensive vocational training and integrated support services. Our program is anchored by a core belief in sustainability and community empowerment.

At the heart of our work are the vocational training centers where we teach valuable skills such as sewing, tailoring, and embroidery. These centers do more than provide skills; they are vibrant hubs of activity that foster community and support for participants.

Understanding the multifaceted challenges these women face, we collaborate closely with local organizations to provide wrap-around services that support their entire well-being. This includes:

  • Nutritional Support: In partnership with the Marshall Seventh-Day Adventist Church Food Pantry, we provide weekly food boxes that ensure our participants have access to nutritious food, which is fundamental to their health and success in the program.

  • Educational Workshops: Through a collaboration with the Calhoun Intermediate School District's SPLASH Program, we offer nutritional education that empowers participants to make informed dietary choices, supporting their health and that of their families.

  • Housing Advocacy: With the support of EXP Realty: Battle Creek, we assist participants in finding stable and affordable housing, navigating rental agreements, and establishing secure living conditions.

Our initiatives in the USA are designed not only to equip women with job skills but also to integrate them into the community, fostering a sense of belonging and self-sufficiency. This holistic approach underlines our commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for individuals to transform their lives and, by extension, their communities.
