Our Model
A Proven Path to Transformation
At Be A Number, International, we have developed an intentional, structured model designed to empower individuals while fostering long-term sustainability. Our three-phase process—Rehabilitation, Training, and Production—offers a holistic approach to addressing the challenges faced by the women we serve. By combining trauma healing, skill-building, and income generation, our model creates a clear pathway for women to rebuild their lives and contribute to their communities.
1. Rehabilitation: Healing and Building Confidence
The journey begins with trauma training. Many of the women in our program have experienced significant hardships, including conflict, abuse, or abandonment. This phase provides a supportive group environment where participants can process their experiences, heal emotionally, and build the confidence needed to take the next steps in their journey. This foundation of emotional resilience is key to their long-term success.
2. Training: Building Technical Skills
Phase I: Sewing Basics
Participants start with the fundamentals of sewing using manual machines. Experienced local tailors provide hands-on guidance, teaching women the technical skills they need to create quality products while fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.
Phase II: Advanced Skills on Electric Machines
As participants progress, they move to electric sewing machines powered by solar energy, which reflects our commitment to environmental sustainability. This phase not only enhances their technical expertise but also prepares them to meet the demands of professional production environments.
The two-phase training approach ensures that participants are equipped with skills that are practical, adaptable, and relevant to local and global markets.
3. Production: Generating Sustainable Income
Graduates transition into the production phase, where they begin creating goods, such as school uniforms, for local contracts. This phase is made possible through partnerships with community organizations that secure steady work opportunities. By participating in this phase, women gain a reliable income, ensuring they can support themselves and their families while contributing to the local economy.
Key Features of Our Model
Local Hiring:
We prioritize employing local tailors and staff, ensuring that expertise and economic benefits remain within the community. This approach strengthens local economies and creates a sense of ownership and pride among participants and community members alike.Collaborative Partnerships:
Partnering with community-based organizations is central to our approach. These partnerships ensure that our programs are culturally relevant, aligned with local needs, and supported by trusted leaders who understand the community's unique challenges and opportunities.Family Support:
Recognizing the importance of family stability, we offer school sponsorships for the children of women enrolled in our programs. This support alleviates financial burdens on mothers and invests in the next generation, creating a foundation for future success.
Our Goal: Sustainability and Global Impact
The ultimate goal of our model is to create independent cooperatives that no longer rely on external funding. We aim to establish systems that enable communities to thrive independently while continuing to empower women and their families.
As we work toward sustainability, we are also focused on scalability. By expanding our proven model to other regions in East Africa and the United States, we aim to serve even more individuals facing barriers to employment. This global vision reflects our commitment to fostering empowerment, sustainability, and transformation on a broader scale.
